Oklahoma State University Allied Arts has booked eight presentations for its 2016-2017 season, including two free performances.

The season starts Sept. 16 with the politically inspired comedic troupe Capitol Steps. Next, local modern aerial dance troupe Perpetual Motion Dance will perform Oct. 25. Danú brings a Celtic-inspired holiday concert on Nov. 30, followed by Split Knuckle Theatre and its performance of Endurance on Jan. 20. The season comes to a close with two music ensembles: Turtle Island Quartet on March 7, followed by international brass troupe Mnozil Brass on April 4.

This season also provides an opportunity for two free presentation experiences, including Dr. Benjamin Myers, state poet laureate, on Nov. 3 and Native American artist Bunky Echo-Hawk on Feb. 3. Both of these performances are at 7 p.m. at the Student Union Theater with seating available on a first come, first served basis.

With the exception of the two free performances, all Allied Arts performances are at 8 p.m. in the OSU Seretean Center Concert Hall in Stillwater. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.okstate.edu.

Dancing For a Miracle

The 9th annual Dancing for a Miracle gala to benefit Children’s Hospital Foundation is scheduled Aug. 20 at the Embassy Suites-Norman.

During the past eight years, the gala has raised $1.4 million for Oklahoma’s children.

Ten local celebrities, each paired with a professional dancer, will take the stage to raise money to support pediatric research and education programs. Celebrity dancers are C.J. Aducci, Dewey Beene, Juan Brou, Cathy Cummings, Jayme Hale, Martin Holland, Saundra Naifeh, Nancy Smith, Cheng-Lunn Soo and Betty Thompson.

Dollars represent votes for the dancers’ efforts to raise money and the dancer with the most donations will be recognized that night as the 2016 Dancing for a Miracle Star.

The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception, mobile bidding on live and silent auctions, a seated dinner and musical entertainment by saxophonist Justin Young.

The event is sponsored by John Vance, Dan Davis, Chickasaw Nation, Ideas in Ice, Kamp’s 1910, Johnny Carino’s, Dolese Bros. Co., Mo and Richard Anderson, Express Employment Professionals, R.K.
